CAMERA OBSCURA HOUSE

Built almost entirely of salvaged materials, the Camera Obscura House is a 10’ x 14’ tiny home that functions as a living piece of artwork as well as guest quarters for visitors to the Mystery Ranch.

WILDLIFE POND

Inspired by local springs including Grapevine Canyon and Hiko Spring, as well as by the animal guests that were already visiting regularly, the Mystery Ranch’s long time pool is undergoing a wildlife pond conversion thanks to volunteers, plant donations from Special Plants Nursery in Las Vegas, more plant donations from Nevada Plants, boulders, branches and many tons of clay, decomposed granite, gravel, rock and sand.

GATES PROJECT

OCC ARCHITECTURE

In collaboration with the Mystery Ranch, architecture students and faculty at Orange Coast College recently designed, built and installed a new gate and fence stile. Creating better access points and paths throughout the ranch helps minimize erosion of the soil biocrust.

PUMPHOUSE

The Pump House is one of the original structures on the ranch, used to house the pump equipment for the Mystery Ranch’s dutiful water well. In 2012, when it became clear that the dilapidated building was in need of a full overhaul, we just couldn’t resist adding a dose (or three) of fun and functionality by converting it into a full bar and guesthouse using salvaged mining camp materials found on the property, as well as an original sign from the Searchlight Nugget, the local casino.
